Purpose of the Symposium
In the wake of the current global climate change and biodiversity crisis, there is a growing awareness that we need to take our global environment seriously.
Protecting the ocean/marine environment is one major global environmental issue we are facing, as humanity is inextricably linked to the ocean. Ocean education is necessary in order to make our society and economy more environmentally friendly, more sustainable, and more in harmony with nature.
It is imperative that we educate ourselves, become more aware, and take action to protect the health of the planet and ensure the well-being of all people within its natural limits. The International Symposium on Ocean Education aims to bring together countries’ commitments to address climate change and other sustainability challenges through ocean education.
The symposium will provide an opportunity for communication among a wide range of participants, including teachers, researchers, and citizens who are interested in ocean education and who are working with students from Japan and overseas, transcending regional and national boundaries. We hope that this symposium will create a place for learning to think about the future of the ocean.
We sincerely look forward to your participation.
